Class: Symbols and QuotesReference Material"Symbols and Quotes" (Options 102) will introduce you to the classification process of options, and how options are assigned their specific symbols. This course will teach the student how to go about deciphering and understanding displayed option symbols and quotes. Each chapter has a quiz at the end, which should be completed before moving on to the next chapter. At the conclusion of Options 102, you should know and understand the how and why of option symbols, and be comfortable reading and interpreting option quotes.
Chapter 1 - IntroductionIntroduces the four major components of an option quote, and how the displayed quotes relate to actual whole dollar amounts. Chapter 2 - Symbol DirectoriesThis chapter gives an interactive option quote that further explains the components of an option and its symbols. In addition, LEAP option quotes are explained as well. Chapter 3 - Reading Published QuotesIn this chapter the student is given a typical example of how exchange-traded options are published in newspapers. This interactive display allows the student to learn how each component appears. Chapter 4 - Finding Automated QuotesFor this chapter the type of option (call vs. put), expiration month codes, and strike price codes are explained using interactive tables. Chapter 5 - Available Expiration Dates (Sequential Cycle)The final chapter in Options 102 explains the three different option expiration cycles and what new months are added as front months expire.
