Year-to-date Equity Volume Up 10.5 Percent
The Options Industry Council (OIC) announced today that equity open interest attained new heights in October. Month-end equity open interest for October reached 79,392,157 contracts, breaking the previous record set in June with 75,742,279 contracts, and 22.3 percent higher than October 2000 with 64,915,538 contracts.

September Average Daily Equity Volume Up 17.7 Percent Over Same Period in 2000
The Option Industry Council (OIC) announced today that September average daily equity volume was 3,139,136 contracts (1,414,287 puts and 1,724,849 calls), a 17.7 increase over 2,666,287 contracts (965,850 puts and 1,700,437 calls).

The Options Industry Council (OIC) announced today that July equity options volume reached 55,954,942 contracts (22,245,677 puts and 33,709,265 calls), a 10.7 percent increase over the 50,540,499 contracts (16,329,660 puts and 34,210,839 calls) traded in July 2000.

The Options Industry Council (OIC) announced today that for the first six months of the year, equity options volume surpassed the same period in 2000 by 18.3 percent. During the first half of 2001, equity options volume was 390,145,359 contracts vs. 329,610,902 contracts.

The Options Industry Council (OIC) announced today that May equity options volume reached 64,459,491 contracts (23,785,314 puts and 40,674,177 calls), a 26.3 percent increase over the 51,028,369 contracts (17,850,543 puts and 33,177,826 calls) traded in May 2000.

The Options Industry Council (OIC) today announced that a new monthly volume record for equity options was set in January with 73,284,884 contracts (26,106,065 puts and 47,178,819 calls), surpassing the previous record set in October 2000 with 70,079,672 contracts (27,768,702 puts and 42,310,970 calls).

For the ninth year in a row, The Options Industry Council (OIC) reported a new record for total equity options volume. Volume in 2000 reached 672,871,757 equity contracts, an impressive 51 percent increase over 1999’s record volume of 444,765,224 contracts.
