The Options Industry Council And The Australian Stock Exchange Enter Affliation To Share Options Education Resources
Chicago—April 26, 2001
The Options Industry Council (OIC) and The Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) announced that they have formed an alliance to share educational resources and options industry research.
"We're very excited about this strategic partnership with ASX, which is OIC's first formal affiliation with a foreign exchange," said Paul Stevens, OIC President. "This is an important stepping stone to increase global awareness of equity options."
"I am delighted about the agreement between ASX and OIC," said Richard Humphry, ASX, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. "This is an exclusive affiliation for our region and the purpose is to share educational resources and business analysis. Some of the benefits of this relationship will become evident over the next few months." Representatives of OIC and ASX are currently developing details of the educational alliance plan. The organizations anticipate that program elements will include exchanging options instructors on limited bases, as well as sharing educational materials and market research from the respective U.S. and Australian options markets. Additionally, OIC would become the primary distributor of ASX materials in the U.S., and ASX would be the primary distributor of OIC materials in Australia.
Australian Stock Exchange Limited (ASX) was formed in 1987 as a result of a national merger of exchanges first established in the 19th Century, and in 1998 became the first stock exchange in the world to demutualise and simultaneously list on itself.
ASX operates Australia-wide markets for equities, derivatives and fixed-interest securities using advanced electronic technology systems for both trading and settlement. ASX also provides comprehensive market data and information to a range of users, and has formed a joint venture with Perpetual Trustees Australia Ltd. to develop a new-generation share registry platform.
ASX has a strong track record of developing leading technology to improve efficiency and ASX's infrastructure is a core component of its World Link program, which will develop international linkages with other markets.
