Start the New Year with New Investment Skills Options Industry Council Announces Winter Seminar Schedule

Investors and brokers interested in learning more about equity options can look to The Options Industry Council (OIC) as a resource. OIC announced today its winter schedule of options seminars, taught by exchange professionals in a classroom-style format. The seminars take place in select cities in the U.S. and Canada from 6-9 p.m. and there is no cost to attend.
Winter classes will be held in the following cities from January 18 through March 17: Austin, TX, Bellevue, OR, Boca Raton, FL, Chicago, IL, Colorado Springs, CO, Denver, CO, Houston, TX, Irvine, CA, Naples, FL, New Orleans, LA, Newport Beach, CA, New York Midtown, NY, Oak Brook, IL, Pasadena, CA, Philadelphia, PA, Pittsburgh, PA, Portland, OR, San Diego, CA, San Jose, CA, and White Plains, NY.
“Last year’s record-breaking options volume was off the charts and we look forward to another strong year in 2005,” said Gina McFadden, Executive Director, OIC. “As the growth of the options market continues, we encourage investors to take advantage of OIC’s diverse educational offerings that go beyond basic and intermediate to include strategy specific seminars.”

Basic Seminar: Options Strategies for Stock Investors - Are you familiar with stock investing but not sure how it relates to options? An exchange professional will introduce the fundamentals and explain how to use equity options to participate in stock price movement. Using real data, you’ll learn how to choose an options strategy in light of market expectations and volatility forecasts.
Practical Uses of Covered Calls - Seeking the potential to increase your income from stock ownership? This seminar will teach you what stocks to look for, how to calculate returns and how to manage positions. Gain insight firsthand with charts, graphs and quizzes that reinforce key concepts.
Understanding and Trading Options Spread Strategies - After mastering the basics, spread strategies take options traders to the next level. Learn the benefits of vertical spreads, straddles, strangles and some spreads involving both stocks and options. First, learn how these strategies work and the profit and risk potential. Then, discuss why these strategies are appropriate for particular market forecasts. Price behavior and options mechanics are also explained.
Advanced Options for Experienced Investors - In this seminar, an instructor will discuss options valuation and its importance in establishing performance expectations. The presentation explores bullish strategies for the experienced options user and compares call buying, put selling, and spreads. Explore the LEAPS buy-write strategy and examine position management strategies including rolls and repair.
