OIC Introduces Online Class "Introduction to Spreading"

Chicago—March 10, 2004

Can't decide if you're slightly bearish or bullish on the current marketplace? Investors with this perspective can learn appropriate strategies to consider in The Options Industry Council's (OIC) newest online class, "Introduction to Spreading."

This free class is located on OIC's Website. "Introduction to Spreading is the newest addition to our online classes, and is being offered in direct response to our audiences' demand for more advanced topics," said Paul Stevens, OIC President. "We encourage sophisticated options investors to review this course to learn how options spreads can provide profit potential while reducing risk."

A spread position is defined as a strategy that involves buying one option, call or put, and writing, or selling, another, resulting in a position that is simultaneously both long and short option contracts. To establish a spread and be poised to potentially make a profit, both the option purchase and sale are executed simultaneously.

"Introduction to Spreading" offers instruction on the following:

  • Using basic bullish and bearish call and put spreads
  • Investigating how and why the potential risk and reward profiles for these strategies differ from those of simple long calls or long puts
  • Seeing what motivates an investor to use simple bull or bear spreads

Interactive examples in the course help participants visualize the outcomes of decisions and allow them to theoretically test a strategy before investing. A quiz is included at the end of the course to help class participants assess their knowledge and progress. Investors may repeat the class until they have a solid understanding of the topic.

Other classes offered at OIC's Options University: "Bull Market Strategies," "Buying Calls," "Buying Puts," "Contracts Adjustments," "Covered Calls," "Options Basics," "Options Pricing," and "Symbols and Quotes."

All classes are free and require registration at Options University. For a complete description of Introduction to Spreads, or to register for The Options University, please visit www.888options.com/classes.jsp.
