Session Descriptions

Options Fundamentals:
This classroom-style session on options fundamentals teaches the in's and out's of investing with options. Learn about calls, puts, strike prices, volatility, break-even points and the like as OIC instructor, Glenn "Bo" Nobel representing NASDAQ OMX covers a wide array of options terminology that is essential to successful trading outcomes. He will then apply basic options strategies, such as covered calls, to real market conditions.

Collar Strategy:
This session is one a stock investor shouldn't miss. Taught by OIC instructor, Peter Lusk of the Chicago Board Options Exchange, you'll learn how the cost of a protective put can be partially or completely offset by the sale of a call option, with a little room left on the upside for potential profit. The strategy is called a collar and is designed to outperform a buy and hold strategy during neutral markets following a period of appreciation. If you are looking to protect accrued profit on shares that you already own, you might want to consider the collar strategy.

Diagonal Spreads:
Mix a bull call spread with a time spread and you get a call diagonal spread, an alternative to the covered call but with many of its characteristics. OIC Instructor, Steve Meizinger of the International Securities Exchange, will show you how this is useful for neutral to bullish outlooks. He will also show you how writing short-term calls against a long LEAPS call instead of a long stock can produce greater returns and how the downside risk of stock ownership is reduced.

Trends vs. Channels: Choosing Your Indicators:
The markets can go up, down or sideways! This session, presented by ProMarket Advisors Rick Swope and Shawn Howell, will help you identify trends and channels through practical price pattern analysis. Then take it to the next level by applying the right indicator for your charts. Knowing what not to use is just as important as knowing what to use. Rick and Shawn will walk you through moving averages, Bollinger Bands and other key indicators for all types of markets.

Real Analysis, Real Time:
Nothing teaches you how to read the market like repetition. Speaking the language of the market is like speaking any other language and Rick Swope and Shawn Howell of Pro Market Advisors, will show you trades in the language of the market. Stock symbols offered by the audience will be used in this analysis of appropriate equity and options strategies. Watch how Rick and Shawn read the charts and apply strategies for managing risk while setting profit targets.
