Track 1 - Options Basics

OIC's Investor Education Day (IED) will help you learn to trade Options – a good alternative when the markets aren't going your way. IED is a full day of Options education and includes topics that vary from options basics to more advanced strategies. Whatever your investment experience, IED offers something that will optimize your trading strategy.

For the investor with limited knowledge of options, this track will teach fundamentals, strategies to get started and the risks/rewards of trading.

Session Descriptions:

Options Fundamentals: This session covers the ins and outs of investing with options. Learn about calls, puts, strike prices, break-even points and a wide array of options terminology that is essential to successful trading outcomes.

Introduction to Trading Spreads: After a brief review of options basics, former CBOE market maker Peter Lusk will introduce you to spread trading. This engaging session will take you through option spread strategies with close attention to risk, reward and the unique trade-offs that spread trading brings.

The Covered Call and Income-Generating Strategies: This session will delve into the topic of covered call writing and put selling. The motivations and risks associated with these income-generating strategies will also be covered. You’ll learn about calculating static and if-called returns as well as some common misconceptions about covered writing. Included will be pointers on what to consider when putting together your own personalized plan.

Creating a Portfolio of Credit Spreads and Covered Writes: Dan Sheridan of Sheridan Options Mentoring will discuss steps to consider when setting up a portfolio using credit spreads and covered writes. This practical how-to session will cover execution, trade plan and risk management.
