OIC Launches New Web Site Featuring Interactive Classes, Options Investment Tools
Chicago—September 14, 2000
The Options Industry Council (OIC) today announced the launch of 888options.com, a new interactive Web site that dramatically expands OIC's free educational offerings for potential and current options investors and brokers.
"This site arrives at a time when investor interest in equity options is reaching new heights. Year-to-date volume is more than 60 percent ahead of the same time frame last year, and investors continue to seek education on how to utilize the flexibility, protection and strategic alternatives of equity options," said Paul Stevens, OIC President. "OIC's mission to be the central resource for options education is actively supported by the breadth and depth of information that we are making available on 888options.com."
A highlight of the new site's content is the debut of interactive, online classes. The first class on "Options Pricing," teaches how an options position is likely to behave under various market scenarios, and it uses quizzes to reinforce material covered. Other online classes that OIC will offer later this fall include: "Symbols and Quotes" and "Stock Splits and Mergers."
"The online classes allow us to reach potential investors who don't have the time or accessibility to attend one of OIC's traditional evening seminars," explained Stevens. However, the free evening seminars remain a core component of OIC's education program. Individuals interested in attending seminars can obtain a schedule and complete a registration form on the "Seminars" portion of the Web site.
Other features of 888options.com include:
- Beginning to advanced pricing calculators that feature Black Scholes, Binomial and Whaley pricing models to price premiums.
- Extensive trading data, including options quotes, volume information, split/merger memos, settlement prices at expiration, new listings, product specifications and an online symbol directory.
- Access to order free equity options information, including videos, software, brochures and newsletters developed by OIC.
- The opportunity to subscribe to e-mail alerts on a variety of topics.
- An "Options Store" which provides a list of books and software about options for purchase.
- A "Press Room" with OIC news releases and background information.
OIC's launch of 888options.com supports the findings of a recent study conducted by Yankelovich Partners, Inc. which revealed that options investors rely on the Internet for information more than other investors. It found that 54 percent of options user say that the Internet is their number one source of information, and they spend an average of 20 hours per week on the Internet for business and personal use.
OIC will promote 888options.com through a new advertising campaign that begins on September 18 on various investment Web sites, Cable programming and print publications.
The new Web site complements the Options Industry Services call center, 1-888-OPTIONS, which was rolled out by OIC and The Options Clearing Corporation on July 3. The call center is staffed with options professionals who can answer questions about options, and also allows investors to register for OIC materials and seminars by phone.
